Cal South Appoints Former Benfica Coach as Head of Player Development

Cal South’s recent appointment set to bolster its growing stable of highly talented coaching professionals

2023 looks set to be Cal South’s biggest and best to date, with several exciting projects and competitions in the pipeline. One of the most recent developments is the appointment of the experienced Portuguese coach, Bruno Pereira, to take the lead over Cal South’s existing Player Development Model.

In his new role, Bruno will be responsible for managing Cal South’s reputable ODP Program, which is one of the most important systems for spotting and developing young talent in our region. He will also form an integral part of the Association’s many coaching initiatives. This will involve hosting training and coaching clinics, seminars, and other activities within the community.

Pereira joins Cal South on the back of an exciting seven-year spell in Doha, Qatar, where he worked with elite player academies and coaching development centers. Bruno brings a wealth of field and technical knowledge and experience to Cal South from his time as a coach for Sport Lisboa E Benfica, one of Portugal’s biggest professional sides. From 2013 to 2015, Bruno also served as First Team Assistant Head Coach for Clube Futebol Benfica’s Women’s Team.

Keen to build further on his career, Bruno is in the process of acquiring his UEFA A Coaching License. This type of world-class talent acquisition will be invaluable to Cal South players and coaches over the coming years. We can’t wait to see his impact felt in southern California.
