We are excited to announce a Cal South Female Referee Development Initiative for females seeking support in development or moving up in license levels. Cal South alongside U.S. Soccer has identified a shortage in female referee participation in major tournaments and annual registration nationwide.
This program will provide participants mentoring and training support as well as awareness of all the officiating possibilities.Â
We are proud to announce that this initiative will be led by a Cal South referee turned FIFA and PRO2 Assistant Referee, Salma Perez as Cal South’s new State Referee Committee (SRC) Female Development Director.
Starting her officiating path in 2002 as a first-time referee, Salma thought becoming a referee would be a great way to make extra cash for herself. She had no idea of all the opportunities available to her. With the aid of individuals guiding her in awareness of the officiating world, she worked through the path of Club soccer, Collegiate officiating, to finally make her way up to US Soccer National, PRO referee and eventually FIFA AR.
