Boise, ID (June 29, 2023) – Cal South ended up in two finals today at the 2023 USYS Far West Regional Championships in Boise, Idaho but lost their bids for a National Championship Series regional title this year.
In the 14U Boys final, Xplosion SC Black was topped by Oregon Premier FC, 4-2. while another Oregon Premier team won the 19U Boys final, 6-2 over the Fellowship of Christian Athletes team. However, both Cal South teams still qualify for July’s National Championships in Orlando due to both Oregon teams having already qualified through the USYS National League.
Cal South teams combined for 28 wins, 21 losses, and 13 draws over the first three days of Pool Play action in the tournament. Fourteen of our teams moved forward to the Quarterfinals, and six of those moved into yesterday’s Semifinals.
The Far West Regionals features teams in the 13U-19U Boys and Girls age brackets, who are participating and competing for a regional championship, with the champions earning a spot at the 2023 US Youth Soccer National Championships scheduled to take place July 17-23 in Orlando, Florida.
UPDATE 6/29/2023: Finals – Cal South’s teams lost both finals matches this morning. In the 14U Boys final, Xplosion SC Black was topped by Oregon Premier FC, 4-2. while another Oregon Premier team won the 19U Boys final, 6-2 over the Fellowship of Christian Athletes team.
UPDATE 6/28/2023: Semifinals – Xplosion SC are in Thursday’s 14U Boys final tomorrow after their 5-4 victory over Oregon this morning. Both of our 13U Boys teams, Albion SC San Diego North and Oxnard FC, lost the other two 8:00 AM matches. In the 10:00 AM matches, 19U Fellowship of Christian Athletes topped Idaho Rush, 2-1 to move to the finals. 16U Boys Futbol Legacy Wolves of Norwalk lost their match against Nevada, 4-1 while 17U Girls Strikers FC North lost 3-2 to Alaska Rush. This means two Cal South teams are in the Finals round on Thursday.
UPDATE 6/27/2023: Quarterfinals – Six Cal South teams have moved forward to Wednesday’s Semifinals round: 14U Boys Xplosion SC, 16U Boys Futbol Legacy Wolves Norwalk, two 13U Boys teams Albion SC San Diego North and Oxnard FC, 17U Girls Strikers FC North, and 19U Boys Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Cal South teams still have a shot at five regional titles.
UPDATE 6/26/2023: Tournament Break – The remaining teams in the Far West Regionals have a day off of game action today in preparation for Tuesday’s Quarterfinals round. We will resume with game updates tomorrow morning…
UPDATE 6/25/2023: Day Three of Pool Play – 8 AM matches saw two Cal South wins and two draws against a loss so far this morning. Cal South had two ties and two losses in the 10 AM matches. In noon games, three losses were accumulated against a single draw. Cal South went 5-2 in the seven 2 PM matches. Cal South split the 4 pM matches, giving them a total for the day of 9 wins, 4 draws, and 9 losses. 15U Girls Eagles SC lost their 5:00 PM wild card match against Cook Inlet SC. As a result, Cal South has 14 of its original 22 teams in Tuesday’s Quarterfinals…
UPDATE 6/24/2023: Day Two of Pool Play – Cal South teams have collected five wins against three losses in morning matches, and then went 2-1-1 in noon matches. The six-pack of 2:00 p.m. games saw Cal South grab another two wins and three draws against a single loss. After the late afternoon games, Cal South ends up with 10 wins and 5 ties against just 6 losses. More great action tomorrow!
UPDATE 6/23/2023 – Day One of Pool Play – The 8:00 AM set of 5 matches saw Cal South teams going just 2-3 overall, but they picked up a win and two ties during the 10:00 AM games. The seven noon (MDT) matches saw Cal South teams take 4 more wins and a draw against two losses. In the remainder of the afternoon matches, Cal South teams went 2-1-1, leaving them with 9 wins and 4 draws on the day against 6 losses. More in Day Two of Pool Play tomorrow…
The 2023 Far West Regional Championships for the 12U Boys and Girls were held over the last weekend alongside the US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup, which also took place in Boise, ID.
