Cal South, Skyline Pitch, and UASA partner to expand adaptive soccer access across southern california
United Adaptive Soccer Association Announces Skyline Adaptive Soccer Community Kickoff inĀ Glendale
United Adaptive Soccer Association (UASA), in partnership with Skyline Pitch and CalSouth, will host the Skyline Adaptive Soccer Community Kickoff on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Skyline Pitch in Glendale, California.
The free community event is designed for players of any age with disabilities and will create an inclusive, athlete-centered soccer experience for participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities, amputee soccer athletes, athletes with dwarfism, mobility disabilities, and other adaptive sport pathways. Volunteers, families, community partners, media, and supporters are also welcome.
The event comes at a timely moment for Southern California, where there is already a strong presence of power chair soccer players, athletes who qualify for amputee soccer, athletes with dwarfism, and many individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are looking for more ways to play. The goal is simple and necessary: grow meaningful access to the beautiful game so more athletes have safe, inclusive, and sustainable places to participate.
āUASAās motto is āSo All May Play,ā and this event reflects that directly,ā said Joslynn Bigelow, President of United Adaptive Soccer Association. āThis is not about creating a one-day feel-good event. These are athletes participating in sport, just like any other athletes. What makes this necessary is that society has not yet made it common enough for athletes with disabilities to have safe, inclusive, and consistent places to play.ā
Skyline Pitch brings a unique and forward-thinking venue partner to the project. From adaptive soccer work in Chicago, including connections to amputee soccer, to the opportunity now taking shape in Los Angeles and Glendale, Skyline is helping demonstrate what it can look like when a soccer venue thinks beyond traditional programming.
Ivan Lopez of Skyline has been instrumental in helping move the effort forward with an open, creative approach to space, access, and community-building. Juan GuzmƔn Jr. of CalSouth, a respected national figure in soccer leadership, brings regional credibility, soccer infrastructure, and long-term development vision. Together, Skyline, CalSouth, and UASA are laying groundwork for adaptive soccer growth across Southern California through 2028 and beyond.

UASA brings the adaptive soccer lens and national pathway perspective. That combination is what makes this more than a single event.āĀ
The player experience will include supported soccer activities, adaptive soccer stations, and small-sided play. From approximately 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, programming will prioritize players who may experience higher impacts of disability, including younger athletes, athletes with lower cognitive processing needs, athletes using mobility frames or chairs, and athletes who may benefit from closer support. This session will be led by Joslynn Bigelow in collaboration with volunteers of all abilities, with the goal of creating a fun, safe, and accessible environment for all participants.
From approximately 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, higher-soccer-ability players will take the pitch, including athletes with lower-impact intellectual/developmental disabilities, amputee soccer athletes, athletes with dwarfism, and other adaptive soccer participants. During this block, coach education candidates will apply their learning in live field sessions with adaptive athletes.
An important component of the event is an adaptive coaching education experience built from U.S. Soccerās traditional 7v7 Grassroots coaching certification pathway. The course content remains grounded in the traditional grassroots model, while accommodations are built in for mixed-ability coaching candidates. This includes additional processing time, support for personal needs, and direct discussion of the nuances involved in coaching mixed-ability populations.
The coaching course will be led by Mike Pellicio of Spokane, Washington. Coaching candidates will participate in classroom learning before moving into applied field sessions with athletes during the event.
Future events may also turn turf into court space to welcome the regionās significant power chair soccer community. Power soccer remains an important adaptive soccer pathway in Southern California, and UASA hopes this kickoff becomes a first step toward broader programming across multiple adaptive
soccer disciplines.

Media are welcome onsite for check-in between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM and may stay through 2:00 PM. Interviews may be pre-arranged or requested onsite. Print, visual, audio, digital, and bilingual media are encouraged.
