Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) & Cal South Partner To Host First “FIFA Female Academy” Event in Escondido, California

Cal South is partnering with the FMF to develop female youth soccer and provide opportunities to compete for places on the Mexican National Team.

Cal South is excited to announce a strategic partnership with the Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) to further develop female youth teams and players in our region. This partnership also aims to promote growth opportunities and provide our talented youth players with the chance to represent the Mexico U15 National Team on the international stage.

Cal South and the FMF are wasting no time in getting hands-on with the development plan. Our first Stateside initiative was an open trial, held at Ryan Park in Escondido, CA on September 28th. Participants were invited to take part through posts on Cal South’s social media channels. Cal South also liaised with local coaches and administrators to ensure the event had maximum exposure. We were ecstatic to see a total of 77 U15 female players arrive at the venue for the 9 am event.

In near-perfect conditions, the tryout was a tremendous success with no shortage of talent on display. After a morning of fierce competition and a lot of fun, 25 participants were selected to take part in a follow-up camp in November, which is set to take place in the San Diego area. Stand-out attendees from the November trial can earn the opportunity to be part of Mexico’s U15 National Team.

Diego Slobotzky, GM of Soccer Development Operations at Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF):

“It was a different tryout for us because it was the first time we did one in the state of California. This was something new and we leave very happy with the level of the players we saw and the level of interest that this event gathered. We believe that this is a great place to continue detecting Mexican-American talent and to show players that they have the same opportunities as all the girls who live in Mexico to reach the U-15 Women’s National Team.”

Cal South plans to host more events with FMF throughout 2023, offering further opportunities for our female players in different regions. As a leader of soccer growth and development in southern California, we continue to design, organize, and run new programs that provide real benefits to our members and players. Cal South strives to present opportunities for players to reach their full potential on and off the field through leagues, competitions, trials, education, and exit pathways to collegiate and professional levels.
