Cal South and Valvoline Instant Oil Change are proud to acknowledge this month’s Difference Maker of the Month award winner. This award is presented to an individual who demonstrates exceptional leadership, dedication, and commitment to making a positive impact within the soccer community.

This month’s award winner is Bernard "Bernie" Towers.

For more than three decades, Bernie Towers has been a driving force behind the growth and success of Coast Soccer League (CSL). His dedication, leadership, and forward-thinking approach have helped shape one of Southern California's premier youth soccer leagues, leaving a lasting impact on thousands of players, coaches, referees, and families.

Bernie began his journey with Coast Soccer League in 1996, when the league consisted of approximately 300 teams. Through years of commitment and service, he has witnessed—and helped guide—the league's remarkable growth to more than 1,300 teams today.

Throughout his tenure, Bernie has served in several leadership roles, including as a member of the Board of Directors and President of Coast Soccer League. While he is proud of many accomplishments during his time with CSL, one achievement stands out above the rest: embracing technology to improve the league's operations.

Under Bernie's leadership, Coast Soccer League became one of the first youth soccer leagues to adopt innovative technology solutions. From implementing email communication and digital scheduling to introducing scorekeeping applications and other management tools, these advancements transformed the way the league operated. Referees, administrators, coaches, and volunteers all benefited from faster communication, improved efficiency, and a more streamlined experience.

Looking ahead, Bernie's vision for Coast Soccer League remains rooted in accessibility. His hope is to continue providing affordable opportunities for players, teams, and families, ensuring that children from every economic background have the chance to experience the joy and lifelong benefits of The Beautiful Game.
