Soltilo FC (13UB) and Central California Aztecs (14UB) will be returning home to California as recently crowned 2018 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Champions after a successful campaign through the tournament that took place from July 12-15 in Westfield, Indiana.
Soltilo FC had a tough time acclimatizing and adjusting to the time change after two draws in the first two games of the tournaments preliminary stage. However, in the third and final game of the stage, the Inland Empire based team was able to come up on top and earn their place in the championship final.
Facing SCCSA Dragons from Pennsylvania-East on Sunday, Soltilo FC came out to present one of their most dramatic games. The East Coast team put away the first goal early in the first half, while Soltilo was able to equalize the match in the second half, forcing the match to go to extra time. In the last breath of the game, Soltilo pulled in their last effort and knocked in the winning goal for a 2-1 final.
The Central California Aztecs proved their high level of talent as they earned three consecutive wins in the group phase, earning them a place in the championship final against Maryland’s ASA PGSA Real Barza. In the group phase, the Aztecs were able to defeat their East Coast counterparts 4-1 on Friday, however, Real Barza was ready to surprise.
The championship match on Sunday was hard-fought from both ends, with both teams maintaining a scoreless draw at the half. Real Barza went up on the scoreboard halfway through the second half, but the Aztecs had yet to respond. In the last 10 minutes of the game, the Aztecs came back to knock in three goals that would ultimately crown them as National Presidents Cup Champions.
On behalf of Cal South, congratulations to Soltilo FC and Central California Aztecs on clinching a National Presidents Cup Championship and proudly representing Southern California.
