Central California Aztecs’ Jose Lopez was named the Golden Boot Award winner in the 14U Boys age group, and Elias Cardenas of Soltilo FC was awarded the Golden Glove Award in the 13U Boys age group after a successful performance throughout the 2018 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup tournament that took place in Westfield, Indiana. Both the Aztecs and Soltilo FC returned home to California with the championship title.
Golden Boot Award winner Jose Lopez scored a total of four goals for the Central California Aztecs at the National Presidents Cup tournament, including a brace in the Championship Final. The Aztecs were down 1-0 to their Maryland counterparts ASA PGSA Real Barza when Lopez was able to equalize the match off a freekick. Within a six-minute span, Lopez earned his second goal and buried the 3-1 victory goal, his fourth of the tournament, helping the Aztecs to their first national title.
Elias Cardenas of Soltilo FC earned the Golden Glove Award in the 13U Boys age group after leading in the category with just three goals against through the tournament. Soltilo started off the tournament with two 1-1 draws in their first games, but Cardenas earned his first clean sheet in the third match after a 1-0 win. In the championship match, Cardenas stepped up for his team against SCCSA Dragons of Eastern Pennsylvania, keeping his team in the game after going down 1-0 early in the first half. Fortunately for Cardenas, his teammates were able to find the win in the last second of extra time, also leading them to their first national title.
