Six Cal South alumnae were selected in the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft on Thursday, Jan. 16 in Baltimore as part of the United Soccer Coaches Convention. A total of 27 Cal South alumnae were up for selection in this year’s draft.
The Washington Spirit selected Ashley Sanchez (So Cal Blues), Natalie Jacobs (Slammers FC) and Kaiya McCullough (San Diego Surf) as the fourth, 13th, and 32nd Overall picks, respectively. Sanchez was named the 2016 Cal South Player of the Year.
A Las Vegas native, but former Legends FC player, Taylor Kornieck will be heading to Orlando Pride where she will join Cal South alum Alex Morgan and Dani Weatherholt. Kornieck was selected as the Third Overall pick in the First Round.
Former Slammers FC forward Julia Bingham was selected as the 15th Overall pick by the Chicago Red Stars. Chloe Castaneda, former LA Premier FC (now LA Surf SC) player will be heading to Houston to join the Dash after being selected as the 22nd Overall pick.
The 14th NWSL Season is set to kick off in April.
