L.A. Wolves FC earned their ticket into the 2017 Cal South Adult State Cup Men’s Division Final after defeating Moreno Valley FC 4-3 in extra time. With this result, the Wolves will be facing FC Long Beach in the Championship Final, date, time and location to be determined due to the Wolves’s participation in the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup.
The Wolves started off by taking the 1-0 lead early in the game. However, Moreno Valley was determined to come back in the game and was able to do so by equalizing in the 48th minute. Soon thereafter, Moreno Valley took a one-man advantage, as well as a 2-1 lead by the 64th minute. In the last breathe of the game, the Wolves made the impossible happen as they found the equalizer that would stretch the game.
In extra time, both teams would give their all to earn their ticket in the championship match where the best Men’s Adult team in Southern California could earn the trophy, take home the $7,500 first place cash prize, as well as automatically earn a berth in the USASA Region IV Amateur Cup. In the 101st minute, the Wolves got closer to that with the 3-2 lead, but their happiness would be cut off two minutes later with Moreno Valley’s equalizer. Near the end of extra time, the Wolves notched the goal that would be enough to earn a 4-3 win over Moreno Valley and would earn them the most sought-after berth in the final.
FC Long Beach earned its berth in the championship earlier this month as they defeated Oxnard’s San Nicolas 2-1 at Aviation Park in Redondo Beach.
