L.A Villa FC claimed the throne of the 2017 Cal South Adult State Cup Women’s Division in an exciting match against Sol SC at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara. As champions, Villa takes home the title, as well as the top $3,000 prize; Sol SC also took home a trophy and a $2,000 finalist cash prize.

Early in the game, Sol hit first by putting the ball into the back of the net. However, Villa FC was able to breathe easy as the play was called offside. Things were looking up for Villa FC as they took the lead in the 30th minute, forcing them to extend the scoresheet, as well as prevent Sol from getting on it.

Right before the end of the second half, Sol equalized that match, taking the game to extra time. After each team knocked in a goal each, penalty kicks were inevitable, putting each goalkeeper to the test. L.A Villa FC came up on top, missing just one of their four penalty kicks, while Sol SC missed three.

“Definitely something that we’re very proud of,” said L.A Villa FC coach Eric Garcia. “Getting ready to open our season in WPSL, this definitely gives us a little boost for it, we know we’re moving towards the next direction, still have a lot of work to do, in terms of the WPSL, but with the new additions of the new players coming in, players that we were missing today, very excited about what’s to come. Winning this is an honor, and we’re looking forward to playing again next year.”
