Fullerton, CA, Release: August 9, 2019. For Immediate Release
Cal South, the National State Association Member of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) in Southern California, announced today that George Noujaim, State Referee Administrator (SRA), will retire after ten years of service effective August 31, 2019.
Noujaim, who has served as SRA since September 2009, also chaired the State Referee Committee while providing administration to Cal South’s referee program. During his tenure, he directed the Referee Professional Development (RPD) program which assisted referees in pursuing their professional and amateur development. He administered the annual certification and assessment process, which assisted in the identification of a number of U. S. Soccer’s FIFA panel and MLS referees.
Noujaim facilitated an annual Cal South Referee Symposium which featured key industry leaders, speakers and topics of interest for referees and program administrators. More recently, Noujaim has worked to facilitate the transition associated with new requirements and changes to the U.S. Soccer Referee program, working to mitigate their impact on the referee community within Cal South. Cal South appreciates George Noujaim’s many years of service to the organization and referee community at-large.
Prior to being appointed as SRA, Noujaim was a player for Chico State University, where he was a member of the NCAA Division II Championship Team in 1972. After his playing career, Noujaim went on to become a national USSF ranked referee before being named to the FIFA Panel in 1992. Noujaim has also officiated numerous NCAA collegiate matches and is a member of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NISOA), where he remains active to this day.
A search for a new SRA will begin immediately with additional information forthcoming. In the interim, Cal South has appointed two members of its Board of Directors, Mr. Robert Pennoyer, and Mr. Jerry Selby, to assist the State Referee Committee with addressing issues on behalf of the Board pending the appointment of a new SRA. Information regarding the SRA vacancy may be obtained by contacting Cal South CEO Johnnie Garza at email@example.com, or (714) 451-1504.
