Four Cal South alumni have been selected in the annual Major League Soccer SuperDraft that held the First and Second Rounds on Thursday, Jan. 9 and Third and Fourth Rounds on Monday, Jan. 13. This year’s SuperDraft was held digitally, with coverage of the initial round on ESPN3.

Former San Diego Surf forward Miguel Berry was the first Cal South alum to be picked, being selected by the Columbus Crew SC as the seventh overall pick in the First Round off from the University of San Diego. LA Galaxy San Diego alum Rey Ortiz was selected shortly thereafter, heading to FC Cincinnati from the University of Portland as the 29th overall pick in the Second Round.

Come Monday afternoon, the Third Round would see Stanford midfielder, and former Real So Cal player, Derek Waldeck, head to FC Dallas as the 14th pick of the round. In the 16th pick of the Third Round, Zachery McGraw, former FC Golden State and Army West Point defender, was selected by the Portland Timbers.

Major League Soccer’s 25th Season kicks off on Friday, Feb 29.
