Des Moines, IL (July 12, 2021) – The boys of Cal South’s Premier SC 13U team won big at this year’s US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup competition in Des Moines, IL over the weekend.
The Premier SC Blue went into Sunday’s Finals match at the top of their bracket with seven points, having accumulated two wins and a draw in their three opening pool play matches of the event, which was held from July 7-11 at the James Cownie Sports Complex in Des Moines. Facing the practically hometown Peoria FC United for the second day in a row – whom they shut out on Day 3 of pool play by the score of 2-0 – Premier SC dug deep and muscled out a 2-1 victory to capture a National President Cup trophy.
The event was hampered by intermittent bursts of torrentially rainy weather throughout, which caused the consolation games on the final day of the event to be wholly cancelled, leaving only the Finals matches to be contested on Sunday. Cal South’s Coachella FC saw their Girls 14U squad make the Finals as well, after finishing second in their bracket with a 1-1-1 record and four points. In their Finals match, Coachella was shut out 4-0 by SASC Spirits (also of Illinois, who defeated them the previous day in pool play as well), ending Coachella’s championship bid.
Both teams began their trips to the National Presidents Cup event through their successes at first this spring’s Cal South State Cup via the Presidents Division, and then at the US Youth Soccer FarWest Presidents Cup in Salt Lake City in June. For this event, Cal South donated the amount of $3,000 per team to aid them in entry fees and travel expenses.
Cal South is proud of both Premier SC and Coachella FC for their excellence in youth soccer play and character in making it all the way to the 2021 National Presidents Cup. Congratulations to the teams, their coaches and managers, and the players and their parents.
