FULLERTON, Calif. (July 30, 2021) – Cal South Soccer announced a new initiative today focused on creating a council which will guide the organization forward to ensure that its players, parents, coaches and referees thrive in an atmosphere of mutual respect and acceptance by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusivity.

The official Mission Statement for Cal South’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council reads as follows:

As a State Association Member of US Youth Soccer, Cal South is very much committed to embracing an environment that accepts the concepts of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as guiding principles for all our membership. To solidify this commitment, Cal South will create a local council to aid in promoting this foundation of diversity, equity, and inclusion by providing guidance, educational resources, and a forum through which members can be heard. This council will meet regularly as needed to discuss various issues and member-submitted reports. They will also recommend and offer resources to the membership to support Cal South’s desire to build and maintain a safe, inclusive, and diverse environment.

“In a time when societal inequity issues are starting to be addressed in our country, Cal South would like to work proactively to help set standards and practices for how our soccer players, their families, coaches, referees, and anyone else involved with our game interact with one another,” said Anthony Pisicoli, Cal South’s Vice President of Youth Soccer. “Our goal is to use this committee to address on-the-field issues that tarnish our beautiful game, help educate and most importantly provide a place to play the game without the fear of being attacked based on a person’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any other factor. Soccer is truly the world’s game, played in nearly every country by men, women and everyone in between. We hope you will all help us make the soccer field a respite from the challenges of everyday life and allow the players to play for the love of the game.”

Further details regarding the formation and selection process for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council will be released at a future date.
